Chapter 10: Web Applications
Lesson Goals
Students can install and configure Web applications.
Lesson Outcomes
Students can:
- Build a responsive Web site using the Bootstrap framework.
- Build a Web map using Leaflet.
Introduction
Using JavaScript, developers have built sophisticated libraries of tools for many purposes. These libraries make it much easier to build common features into Web sites, and many are open source so that others can use them and extend them.
One of the more desirable features of Web sites is the ability to work with many different screen sizes, which is important in this era of smartphones and iPads. The Bootstrap framework provides templates to help build such Web sites without starting from scratch.
The Leaflet library provides a basic set of tools to easily build maps. Many additional libraries have been created as plug-ins to extend its capabilities.
